Ever wondered what’s actually inside of a nicotine pouch? We share the elusive components that make up a nicotine pouch below.
The Ingredients of a Nicotine Pouch
At first glance, it’s fairly easy to tell what a nicotine pouch is made of. The pouch is made from material that resembles a teabag, safe to put under your upper lip but not to swallow. They are generally white, although they can be dyed in different colours.
What lies inside, however, is a bit more of a mystery. The exact ingredients of a nicotine pouch are bound to vary from brand to brand, but generally speaking, you can expect pouches to consist of the following main ingredients:
- Nicotine extract
- Flavouring
- Fillers
- Stabilisers (VG/PG)
- Minerals
Nicotine Extract & Flavouring
The first two ingredients are the most obvious. Nicotine is extracted from tobacco leaves and put into the pouch to satisfy your nicotine cravings without any tobacco. Flavourings and sweeteners are added to enhance the experience and give you a burst of flavour along with your hit, often used in chewing gum products.
There are many flavour options available such as refreshing mint or fruity Blue Raspberry Ice, for example.
Less obvious perhaps are fillers. Nicotine pouches need to be padded out with fillers for maximum user comfort, as nicotine extract and flavourings on their own are relatively small in volume.
This is why fillers usually contain plant-based fibres and sometimes even small amounts of gum base found in most forms of chewing gum.
Stabilisers (VG/PG)
Vegetable Glycerin (VG) and Propylene Glycol (PG) are plant-based stabilisers, vital for enhancing flavour, maintaining consistency and moisture and holding together the nicotine.
Minerals
Nicotine pouch manufacturers will usually add pH adjusters, which are minerals found in baked goods. pH measures acidity or basicity; the more pH there is, the more nicotine will be absorbed, so adjusters are added to figure out how potent the pouch is.
